In China, Lion’s Mane, Hericium erinaceus, has been historically known as Hóu Tóu GÇ, translating to Monkey Head Mushroom, and in Japan, Yamabushitake, translating to Mountain Monk Mushroom. “In Chinese and Japanese medical systems, it has traditionally been used to fortify the spleen, nourish the gut, and also as an anticancer drug” (Liu, Du, Wang, Yu, 2015). Interestingly, Lion’s Mane was and is still used as both a food and traditional medicine. According to TCM, by consuming Lion’s Mane, it is said to benefit all of the five internal Yin organs: Heart, Liver, Spleen, Kidney and Lung.
